The acai palm tree produces the acai berry. These trees grow in flood plains and swamps. It is native to south and Central America. The fruit looks somewhat like a grape with a large seed in the middle. The color of the berry is a deep purple or green depending on the variety of the acai and its maturity. This fruit has a very low shelf life, which explains why it is only available outside its native area as a juice, fruit pulp, or freeze-dried product. The berries must be processed quickly after harvest to preserve the nutritional value of the berries.

The Acai berry has a high level of antioxidants, which will increase energy levels to a high degree and aid the immune system in fighting off illnesses. It helps to burn fat, lose weight, fights heart disease by providing good cholesterol, and eliminates free radicals in the body, which helps to fight off cancer. This berry also promotes good vision, including fighting off eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. It is good for the digestive system and helps you sleep better by relaxing muscles and balancing chemicals in the brain to promote a restful sleep.

The Acai berry has shown to be an excellent addition to a healthy diet. You can find acai berry in juice or powder form online at various websites. As far as side effects with Acai berry, there is none as it is a food not a drug.  Pay attention to what you buy however with Acai berry in it as it may contain other substances that may cause side effects.  Be careful and do your research when buying an Acai berry product. Read the label to determine if you are purchasing a product with enough Acai berry in it to do you some good.

Brazil natives have been using Acai Berry for centuries to improve their health and stamina. They use it to increase energy, sex drive, and ward off illnesses.  This berry contains many nutrients and is a great addition to anyone’s diet.
